Privacy and your family history
Your family research stays on your device. Learn how privacy settings, saved projects, spreadsheet downloads and contact messages work at Family Tree Workshop.
When you use the GEDCOM converter, your browser does the work: reading your file, arranging the tree, matching countries and creating PDFs. Your genealogy is not uploaded to us.
What reaches the website host
The host receives ordinary requests for the website and its bundled code, fonts and assets. These requests can include information such as your IP address. The app has no genealogy upload endpoint, analytics, tracking or automatic error reporting. Your genealogy is not sent to an AI or payment service.
What stays in your browser
Your imported file and settings are kept in the open tab. Nothing is saved automatically. Choose Save project if you want to return to your work later. Clear removes the family file from the session; leaving the converter page or closing the tab also loses unsaved work. Files you have already downloaded stay on your device.
Living people and shared outputs
Hide living details starts off. When you turn it on, details are hidden for anyone who may still be living, including people whose status is uncertain. Charts and reports use the same privacy settings, and hidden people are left out of country matching and counts. Record IDs and relationships remain visible, so this is not complete anonymisation. Check every output before sharing it.
A saved project contains the original unmasked GEDCOM, including information hidden in the preview. The converter warns before downloading it. Keep project files private.
Linked photos, websites and maps
The converter does not follow links in your GEDCOM to fetch photos, sources or websites. Map outlines and country-matching data are supplied with the app. Once the converter and PDF font have loaded, you can keep importing and exporting in that tab if your connection drops. Reloading the page without a connection is not supported.
Public articles may contain links to reference material. Following a link to another website leaves this site. No imported family information is added to those links.
Spreadsheet downloads
The Excel and Numbers templates have no upload feature or external data connections. A workbook you fill in contains all the family information you entered, even if its chart view hides living details. Your spreadsheet app may save or sync it through services such as iCloud or OneDrive, depending on your settings. Choose a local folder outside those services if you want to keep the file on one device.
Contact enquiries
The contact form sends your optional name, reply email, selected topic and message through Cloudflare and Resend to our support mailbox when you choose Send message. These providers process the submitted details to deliver the enquiry. Messages remain in our support mailbox and may be retained by the delivery provider under its service policies. We use the details to respond to your enquiry, not for marketing or automatic account creation.
Do not include private family information. The form accepts no attachments and cannot read an imported GEDCOM or saved project. No contact message is saved in browser storage or an application database. The host’s ordinary access information is separate from the family information processed in the converter.
